Come along on a guided walking tour of the Mönchsberg, one of Salzburg’s home mountains.
On this tour you will hear interesting facts about famous residents who used to live in various villas on the Mönchsberg. We start at the Mönchsberg lift and walk to the "Bürgerwehr", a former fortification at the narrowest point of the mountain where vigilantes protected themselves from invading enemies.
On our way to the "Richterhöhe", a popular lookout, you will learn about the water supply, former pastures for cattle, and the cloistral vineyards on the Mönchsberg.
We proceed to the border between Mönchsberg and Festungsberg, the so-called "Schartentor". Then we walk down again to the "holy district" whilst passing a number of villas with magnificent views of the Hohensalzburg fortress. The views from the Mönchsberg over the old town, the surrounding mountain ranges, and the Bavarian Alpine country remain unforgettable.
Our walk on the Mönchsberg exposes us to numerous fortifications, defense towers, and medieval constructions.
