Only a few minutes by car from the old town of Salzburg the rococo gem Leopoldskron Palace lies embedded in a breathtaking setting and provides magnificent views of the mountain panorama and the Leopoldskron lake.
The palace has a fascinating history and was commissioned by the Prince Archbishop of Salzburg Leopold Anton Eleutherius Freiherr von Firmian in 1736. It lived through many changes and famous proprietors before the theater director Max Reinhardt became the new lord of the palace. Hollywood made use of the romantic ambience as film location for its world famous movie “The Sound of Music” in 1964.
Leopoldskron Palace is considered the birthplace of the Salzburg Festival, empress Elisabeth spent a few days here after her engagement in Bad Ischl, and even Mozart is said to have performed in the upstairs Marble Hall…
Since 1947 Leopoldskron Palace has been home to the American educational institution “Salzburg Global Seminar.” It is hence private property and not open to the public. This non-profit organization arranges conferences and seminars together with partner institutions from all over the world to enable exchange at the highest stage on topics like science, economy, politics, environment, education, and art.
